The Novice Crafter

My little girl likes Tinkerbell... in fact, she loves Tinkerbell and all her fairy friends living in Pixie Hollow. There's Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta, and the beautiful Silvermist. So being the loving father that I am, I bring home a No Sew Fleece Throw Kit featuring Tink in all her pixish glory, and Hannah flipped. She wanted to make it "right now daddy!" You see, I thought Hannah and her mother would have a lovely time cutting and knotting. Her mother thought different.

So here I am, not knowing the first thing about sewing or quilting, and the only knot tying (other than my shoes) I've done was in the Cub Scouts 35 years ago. I'm nervous enough about a 4 year old (excuse me... 4 and a half she reminds me) with a pair of scissors, but I get over it and with a little help we get started. We trim the edges and cut down the lines and after a few minutes we both start to get the hang of things. Our cuts are not straight and as we tie the little knots, some don't quite match the others, but that's OK. We get to spend about an hour or so together making a nice comfy throw that she will snuggle up with until she grows older and is more interested in boys and other things. And even then, hopefully, she will on occasion pull our throw out of the closet and remember that she is still my little girl.
